Red Earth East Complex - Evacuation orders
The following communities remain under and evacuation order:

  • Chipewyan Lake;
  • Peerless Lake;
  • Trout Lake;
  • Red Earth Creek; and
  • Loon River First Nation.

Heavy equipment, helicopters and firefighters worked to limit the spread of wildfire SWF092 yesterday. Good progress has been made on the northwest corner of the wildfire. Crews continue their work on containment lines around these wildfires and bucketing operations from the air.

Tulip Lake (MWF026)

This wildfire is currently classified as out of control and is estimated at approximately 13,183 hectares. It is burning 15 km northeast of Fort Fitzgerald and 28 km east of Fort Smith.

The fire has showed increased activity yesterday due to shifting winds but we are expecting calmer winds today which will help with fire behaviour.

Firefighters continue to focus suppression efforts on the west side of the fire, with the support of airtankers laying retardant and helicopters bucketing water, to prevent growth towards the community. Crews have also been creating landing pads for helicopters to improve access on the western side of the fire.

Sousa Creek (HWF036)

HWF036 is approximately 6.7 km south of the community of Chateh, 72 km west of the Town of High Level, and 30 km east of the Town of Rainbow Lake. This wildfire is estimated at 37,238 ha in size.

There was some growth along the northeast perimeter yesterday and the efforts of ground and air crews are focused on containing this area to prevent further spread. Heavy equipment continues to work along the northeast side of the fire, near Sousa Creek. Additional heavy equipment has started building containment line along the northwest side, south of Highway 58. Firefighters with helicopter support will continue to work on reinforcing containment lines. Air tanker support is available, when required and when conditions are suitable.

Travelers on Highway 58 should expect delays or intermittent closures and are encouraged to check 511 for updates.

Slims Creek (PWF050)

This wildfire is located 5 km west of Highway 35 and 3 km northwest of the Twin Lakes Provincial Recreation Area and is estimated to be 2,200 ha in size. Airtankers, ground crews, heavy equipment and helicopters continue to work on this wildfire today. Smoke in the area is limiting air operations due to visibility. The County of Northern Lights has issued a wildfire alert for residents north of Hawk Hills and around the Twin Lakes Provincial Park.

Kiskatinaw River Wildfire - near Kelly Lake, B.C. (GBZ001)

The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Kiskatinaw River wildfire (G70422), located 1 km southwest of Kelly Lake, B.C. The wildfire remains on the B.C. side of the border, approximately 2 km from Alberta, and is currently estimated at 7,385 hectares in size.

Wildfire behaviour is expected to be extreme today due to windy conditions today. Alberta Wildfire continues to work closely with BC Wildfire Service and the County of Grande Prairie to plan ahead for wildfire response.

Caribou Lake (LWF090)

Caribou Lake Wildfire (LWF090) is currently burning out of control and is an estimated 64,572 ha in size.

Alberta Wildfire had crews working overnight on the northwest side of the wildfire. Today, crews will continue to focus on the north and south sides of the wildfire, which are the closest to infrastructure.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has put an evacuation alert in place for the hamlet of Conklin.

Blue Sky (SWF088)

This wildfire remains classified as out of control at an estimated 10,448 ha. It is located approximately 24 km north of Marten Beach

Due to recent rain, the fire behaviour continues to be reduced to smouldering with no growth on the wildfire. Heavy equipment continue to build containment lines and firefighters continued to patrol and extinguish ground fires. Crews and helicopters are working on hot spots within this wildfire today.

Swan Complex (SWF076, WWF023)

Edith Lake (SWF076)
The Edith Lake wildfire is located approximately 8 km north of Swan Hills. The wildfire is is now classified as being held and is approximately 16,852 hectares (ha) in size. There has been no growth on this wildfire in the last 24 hours. Cooler temperatures and recent rain have helped firefighting efforts.

The evacuation order for this wildfire has been lifted and changed to a 4-hour evacuation alert. Highway 33 is open at reduced speeds.

Hubert Lake (WWF023)
The Hubert Lake Wildfire is located 7 km west of Fawcett, 19 km north of the community of Vega, in the Hubert Lake Wildland Provincial Park. The wildfire is currently classified as out of control and is approximately 2,779 ha in size.

Crews continue working on the northwest, southeast and northeast sides of the fire, linking containment lines into small bodies of water in each area. Natural features, such as lakes and water bodies, are helping limit the wildfire’s spread on the north, east and west sides.
