For the 2026–27 school year, Alberta is investing in more teachers, more classroom staff and more targeted support to help address class size and classroom complexity.

Record investment in education
$10.8B in education funding for 2026-27 – a more than 7% increase over last year.
More teachers and reduced class sizes
$200 million to hire 1,400+ K to 9 teachers and reduce class sizes.
Expanded in-class support teams
Up to 699 in-class complexity teams to support teachers and give students more focused time and attention.
More classroom space where it’s needed
Alberta’s student population grew by almost 90,000 students over 4 years, putting added pressure on classrooms, teachers and school spaces. Through the Schools Now program, Alberta is investing $8.6 billion to support major school construction and modular classroom investments.

New school projects and student spaces
17 school projects opened since Sept. 2024, creating almost 12,000 new and renovated student spaces.
More school projects on the way
156 active school projects underway in communities throughout the province.
Additional modular classroom spaces
$200M to add 5,900 more modular classroom spaces across Alberta, building on 3,100+ modular spaces in 2025-26.
More transparency for parents
Parents will have more information and a stronger voice in their child’s education — with clearer communication, consistent expectations and greater transparency.
Neutrality in the classroom
New legislation keeping classrooms free from politics and ideology.
Better communication
Stronger standards ensuring school resources are age-appropriate and parents are kept informed about activities happening at school.
More choice in education
Expanded career education options and ongoing funding for public, separate, francophone, charter, home and independent schools are providing more choice than ever.
