Alberta vital statistics (event) records, such as birth, marriage, death and stillbirth, may be corrected with an amendment.

Overview

Once your request is received, Vital Statistics will advise you regarding the amendment requirements including your eligibility to amend the record, if evidence documents are required and if there is an amendment fee.

Next of kin does not include: grandchild, grandparent, in-law, child of a sibling (niece/nephew) or relative. This also does not include any kind of ex; e.g., ex-spouse, ex-adult interdependent partner, ex-step parent, ex-step child, etc. A person who has been adopted, or placed their child for adoption, is not next of kin to biological relations.
