Slave Lake Forest Area - May 30, 2026

Low wildfire danger

With rain across most of the Slave Lake Forest Area on May 29, 2026, the fire danger is low. Fire can still ignite, despite cooler temperatures and wet conditions. Use caution if you're spending time outdoors.

Wildfire situation

Since January 1, 2026, there have been 31 wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area, burning approximately 16 hectares.

One under control wildfire in the 2025 Red Earth East Complex is still active. Infrared scanning is being used to identify hot spots on this wildfire. Firefighters, heavy equipment and aircraft will be used to extinguish hot spots as required. At this time, there is no threat to nearby communities.

Recent lightning

The Slave Lake Forest Area received widespread lightning on May 29, 2026, as shown on the Daily Lightning Map. Firefighters are patrolling in the forest area and lookout observers are watching for any new wildfires resulting from the storm.

Get your free fire permit

A fire permit is required for any burning within the Forest Protection Area (FPA), except campfires. Permits are required during wildfire season, from March 1 to October 31.

As a reminder, if the wind is gusting over 15 km/h or increases beyond the limit on your permit, immediately extinguish your fire.
