Wildfire update

Rocky Mountain House Forest Area - May 29, 2025

Very High wildfire danger

The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has climbed to very high. The warm temperatures, combined with windy conditions and lack of precipitation have led to increased fire risk. If a wildfire ignites in these conditions, it has potential to grow quickly and exhibit erratic behaviour, making it difficult to contain.

Please use extra caution when spending time outdoors with any activity that could spark a wildfire.

Fire advisory

A fire advisory is now in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area.

Under this fire advisory:

  • Existing fire permits remain valid but will not be extended.
  • New permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis for essential burning only.
  • Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited.

Always use extra care and attention when enjoying a wood campfire. Never leave it unattended. When it’s time to put it out, remember to soak it, stir it, and soak it again to ensure it’s completely extinguished and safe.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve or further escalation to a fire restriction is warranted.

Fire advisories, restrictions and bans are in place across the province. Please visit Alberta Fire Bans to see if you are impacted.

Report wildfires

The sooner we know about a wildfire, the sooner we can respond with appropriate resources. If you see smoke in the forest or signs of wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473). Quick reporting helps wildfire crews respond faster and reduces the risk of wildfires spreading.
