Thanks to recent and much-needed precipitation, wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now low.
As a result, the fire ban and advisory are no longer in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area.
Even with the reduced fire danger, please continue to use caution with any open burning and outdoor fires.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, 2025, there have been 36 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, with over half caused by human activity.
As the May long weekend approaches and more people visit the forest, it’s important to remember that human-caused wildfires remain a significant concern. Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility, and everyone plays a role in reducing the risk through responsible actions.
Do your part to reduce the risk, always ensure any fire is fully extinguished by following these steps: soak it, stir it and soak it again until it's completely extinguished.

Fire permits are required
From March 1 to October 31, all burning activities in the Forest Protection Area, excluding campfires, require a fire permit. Fire permits are free and can be requested online. You may also request your fire permit by calling the Rocky Mountain House forestry office at 403-845-8250.
