Wildfire update

Rocky Mountain House Forest Area - May 03, 2026

Very High wildfire danger

The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is very high. Continued warm temperatures are melting the remaining snow at higher elevations, while vegetation at lower elevations is extremely dry. Strong winds in the region may increase wildfire activity.

Wildfire situation

Thanks to quick reporting from the public, firefighters were able to respond quickly to RWF029 and it is now extinguished.

Since January 1, 2026, the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has responded to 29 wildfires.

Mutual aid assistance

The Rocky Mountain House Forest Area maintains written agreements and strong working relationships with neighbouring municipalities to allow for swift and seamless wildfire response when needed. Firefighters are currently supporting Clearwater County with a wildfire (RCU005) burning in their jurisdiction. Sufficient resources are on standby in the forest area to respond quickly to any new wildfires.

Wind conditions

In the Forest Protection Area, all burning requires a fire permit, which outlines the conditions for burning. Wind is an important consideration. When winds exceed 12 km/h, all burn piles must be extinguished. High winds can cause fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control. Please pause all open burning until conditions improve and ensure all burning remains within permit requirements.
