The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now very high. Continued warm temperatures are melting the remaining snow, and exposed vegetation is extremely dry.
Wildfire situation
Earlier today, RWF029 was detected and is currently classified as out of control at approximately 14 hectares. This wildfire is located about 5 km east of Highway 22, south of Township Road 372, adjacent to the Clearwater River. Firefighters are on scene working to contain the wildfire, with support from helicopters conducting bucket operations. Given current conditions and the resources in place, the wildfire is responding to suppression efforts. However, grass fires can spread quickly and are often difficult to contain. Crews will remain on scene into the evening.
The Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is also supporting two mutual aid wildfires outside of the Forest Protection Area.
Since January 1, 2026, the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has responded to 29 wildfires.
