The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now low. Continued rain showers and cooler temperatures have helped reduce the risk of wildfires, and this trend is expected to continue over the next few days. It will take several consecutive warm, dry days for conditions to begin drying out and for the fire danger to rise again.
Wildfire situation
There are currently no active wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area.
See the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard for up-to-date information on wildfire locations, status, size, statistics and more.
Campfire safety
Abandoned campfires are a leading cause of wildfires in Alberta, and they’re entirely preventable. Never leave a campfire unattended. When you're finished, always extinguish it completely: soak it, stir it and soak it again until the coals are cool to the touch.
Fire permits are required
From March 1 to October 31, a fire permit is required for all burning activities in the Forest Protection Area, excluding campfires. This includes fireworks and exploding targets, which require a permit year-round. Fire permits are free and can be requested online or by calling the Rocky Mountain House forestry office at 403-845-8250.
