Wildfire prevention reminders
When planning for the long weekend, keep wildfire prevention in mind. Even with recent rain in some areas, warm, dry and windy conditions can still lead to wildfires. If you're spending time outdoors, never leave a campfire unattended, keep your off-highway vehicle free of debris and ensure all fires are fully extinguished before you leave. Before having a campfire, be sure to check Alberta Fire Bans for any restrictions in the area.
Smoke conditions
Smoky conditions may be present in the area due to ongoing wildfire activity across Canada. To track smoke in your region, visit FireSmoke Canada. If you have smoke-related health concerns, visit Alberta Health Services.
Fire permits are required
From March 1 to October 31, a fire permit is required for all burning activities in the Forest Protection Area, excluding campfires. This includes fireworks and exploding targets, which require a permit year-round. Fire permits are free and can be requested online or by calling the Rocky Mountain House forestry office at 403-845-8250.
