Privacy management and data ethics

Frameworks designed to protect your personal information and ensure your data is used ethically.

Overview

We recognize the opportunities and risks associated with a rapidly evolving digital world. To deliver better, faster and smarter digital services, the Privacy Management Framework and Data Ethics Framework have been developed to ensure your privacy is protected and your data used ethically.

Privacy Management Framework

The Privacy Management Framework provides high-level strategic direction to maintain consistent and effective privacy management processes across government. It prioritizes planning, security and control, openness and accountability through a privacy-by-design approach, which means privacy considerations are integrated into processes from the beginning so personal information is protected by default.

Data Ethics Framework

The Data Ethics Framework is a strategic framework focusing on the ethical collection, management, and use of data across the Government of Alberta (GoA). The vision, principles, and actions in this framework will help enhance public trust that the GoA is managing the information it collects in an ethical manner. The Data Ethics Framework is organized around 4 core principles:

  1. Accountability
  2. Equity
  3. Privacy and protection
  4. Transparency
