Due to high temperatures and dry conditions, wildfire danger is very high to extreme in the Peace River Forest Area.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, there have been 57 wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area, burning a total of 46,813 hectares.
PWF050 is burning in the vicinity of Twin Lakes. Highway 35 has been reopened between Hawk Hills and Keg River as of this morning. Fire ban
A fire ban is in effect for the entire Forest Protection Area.
All outdoor wood fires are banned, including wood campfires on public lands, private land, designated campgrounds, and in backyard firepits. Charcoal briquettes are also prohibited under the ban. Propane/natural gas-powered appliances are permitted.
Visit Alberta Fire Bans for more information and to see a map of the area.
Not worth the risk
Regulations and laws relating to fire in the Forest Protection Area are in place to prevent wildfires. By following them, we protect homes, livelihoods, landscapes, and lives.
The serious nature of fire on the landscape is reflected in the fines for non-compliance under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act.
