Wildfire update

Lac La Biche Forest Area - May 14, 2025

Very High wildfire danger

The fire danger is very high in the Lac La Biche Forest Area due to high temperatures and strong winds. This means that in the event of a wildfire, firefighters expect to see extreme fire behaviour.

Wildfires can start and spread very easily in these conditions. Please use caution if you are spending time or working outside, as any spark could cause a wildfire to ignite and get out of control.

There has been no significant rain in the area lately. Conditions remain very dry.

Since January 1, 2025, there have been 79 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area, burning a total of 625 hectares (ha). There are currently 4 active wildfires burning in the forest area.

  • Wildfire LWF079 is being held and has burned an estimated 67 ha. This wildfire is located east of Bohn Lake. Alberta Wildfire continues to respond to this wildfire with firefighters and helicopters.

The remainder of the active wildfires are under control. Visit the wildfire status dashboard for additional information.

There are no threats to communities or structures at this time.

Mutual aid wildfires

Alberta Wildfire is assisting with several wildfires that are located outside of the Lac La Biche Forest Area.

LCU002

The Redwater Recreation Area Fire is being held at 3,230 hectares. Firefighters continue to extinguish hot spots in the interior of the fire with the support of helicopters.

Firefighters need space to do their work safely. For your safety and the safety of first responders, please respect road closures and avoid burned areas.

For more information visit the Sturgeon County Facebook page.

We also continue to provide support on mutual aid fires LCU005, LCU006 and LCU007.

A mutual aid wildfire refers to a wildfire that occurs outside of the Forest Protection Area, typically within a municipal district or county. When such a wildfire grows beyond the capacity of local municipal firefighting resources, Alberta Wildfire may be called upon to provide assistance. In these cases, Alberta Wildfire supports the lead agency in managing and containing the fire.
