- This notice is to caution Albertans about fraudulent, unlicensed insurance agents or brokers commonly known as 'ghost brokers' offering fake automobile insurance for sale in Alberta.

- In accordance with section 792 of the Insurance Act, the purpose of this guideline is to provide guidance on the provision of property and automobile insurance when property and automobiles are exposed to an elevated environmental threat (a “threat”).
- Notice 01-2024: Consumer Alert: Caution against Unlicensed Insurer NUN2X3 – March 1, 2024
- This notice is to warn Albertans about an unscrupulous company and/or individuals purporting to be a licensed insurance company in Alberta and offering automobile insurance for sale.

- Notice 10-2023: Automobile Insurance Reform Measures – effective January 1, 2024 – posted December 21, 2023
- This notice is to advise all insurers licensed for automobile insurance in Alberta of reform measures the Government of Alberta has implemented to improve the province’s automobile insurance system.
- Notice 10-2023 rescinds previous Interpretation Bulletin 01-2023 effective January 1, 2024, and allows Interpretation Bulletin 02-2023 to expire on December 31, 2023.
- Interpretation Bulletin 09-2023: Minor Injury Regulation – Annual Increase in Amount for Non-Pecuniary Damages – November 28, 2023. Effective January 1, 2024, replaces Bulletin 09-2022.
- Interpretation Bulletin 08-2023: Adoption of CCIR/CISRO Incentive Management Guidance – effective July 11, 2023
- Pursuant to section 792.1 of the Insurance Act (Act) and with the cooperation of the Alberta Insurance Counsel (AIC), this Interpretation Bulletin is for the Superintendent of Insurance and the Alberta Insurance Council to inform all insurers and insurance companies (intermediaries) carrying on business in Alberta of their expectations to develop incentive arrangements which align with Fair Treatment of Customers (FTC). Insurers and intermediaries are expected to put in place policies, procedures, and controls to meet their obligations and avoid or properly manage conflict of interest risks in their incentive arrangements.
- Interpretation Bulletin 07-2023: Auto Insurance Take All Comers Rule Interpretation – effective April 5, 2023
- Pursuant to section 792.1 of the Insurance Act, and further to June 1, 2023 amendments to the Adverse Contractual Actions Regulation, this Interpretation Bulletin sets out Superintendent of Insurance expectations for adverse contractual actions and quoting procedures used by automobile insurers. In addition, it interprets that certain adverse and quoting actions taken by insurers are unfair acts under section 509 of the Insurance Act.
- Notice 06-2023: New Standard Endorsement Forms: 26(B) Single Deductible Per Occurrence Endorsement, 45(A) & 45(B) Extension of Termination Notice Period Endorsements - effective March 1, 2023, the following SEFs are authorized for use in Alberta:
- Interpretation Bulletin 05-2023: Amended Standard Endorsement Forms: 26(A) Disappearing Deductible(s) Endorsement, 44 Family Protection Endorsement, 81 Garage Family Protection Endorsement, 90 Limitation to Operation of Automobiles by Partners, Officers and Employees Endorsement – effective March 1, 2023, the following SEF amendments are authorized for use in Alberta:
- SEF #26A – Disappearing Deductible(s) Endorsement (formerly S.E.F. No. 26)
- SEF #44 – Family Protection Endorsement (amended)
- SEF #81 – Garage Family Protection Endorsement (amended)
- SEF #90 – Limitation to Operation of Automobiles by Partners, Officers and Employees Endorsement
- Interpretation Bulletin 04-2023: DCPD Deletion Endorsement Forms – effective March 1, 2023, the following SEFs are authorized for use in Alberta:
- SEF #49A – DCPD Deletion Endorsement (New)
- SEF #49B – Blanket Basis DCPD Deletion Endorsement (new)
- SEF #30A – Attached Machinery, Apparatus or Equipment Exclusion Endorsement (amended)
- Notice 03-2023: Consumer Alert: Caution Against Unlicensed Insurer – Greenan Insurance Ltd.
- The purpose of this notice is to warn Albertans about an unscrupulous company and/or individuals purporting to be a licensed insurance company based in Canada and offering insurance products for sale online.
- Interpretation Bulletin 02-2023: Underwriting Rules Pertaining to Section C (collision and comprehensive) Coverage – effective January 25, 2023 (expires on December 31, 2023)
- Pursuant to section 792.1 of the Insurance Act, this Interpretation Bulletin advises auto insurers that the Superintendent of Insurance has interpreted that changing eligibility rules for Section C coverage in the period January 25 to December 31, 2023, is an unfair act or practice prohibited under section 509 of the Act.
- Interpretation Bulletin 01-2023: Premium Payment Plans for Private Passenger Vehicle Insurance – effective January 25, 2023 – rescinded effective January 1, 2024
- Pursuant to section 792.1 of the Insurance Act, this Interpretation Bulletin advises auto insurers that the Superintendent of Insurance has interpreted that denying a premium payment plan for PPV insurance, except under limited circumstances, is an unfair act or practice prohibited under section 509 of the Act.

- Interpretation Bulletin 09-2022: Minor Injury Regulation – Annual Increase in Amount for Non-Pecuniary Damages – November 25, 2022. Effective January 1, 2023, replaced Bulletin 05-2021.
- Notice 08-2022: Captive Insurance Implementation – effective July 1, 2022 – posted June 8, 2022
- The Captive Insurance Companies Act (CICA), the Captive Insurance Companies Regulation (CICR), the Captive Insurance Companies (Prescribed Enactments) Regulation and consequential amendments to the Insurance Enforcement and Administration Regulation (IEAR) and the Recovery of Insurance Administration Costs Regulation (RIACR), come into effect on July 1, 2022.

- Interpretation Bulletin 07-2022: Unlicensed Insurance – effective May 31, 2022 – posted June 7, 2022
- This bulletin replaces Interpretation Bulletin 02-2017 and provides updated clarification on the requirements for disclosure of unlicensed insurance in accordance with the Insurance Act.

- Notice 06-2022: Insurance Amendment Act, 2022 – posted June 7, 2022
- This notice is to advise that the Government of Alberta has implemented statutory amendments to keep Alberta’s regulatory framework efficient and to support the growth of Alberta’s insurance industry.
- These changes were implemented through Bill 16: Insurance Amendment Act, 2022. Bill 16 contains amendments to the Captive Insurance Companies Act (effective July 1, 2022) and Insurance Act (effective May 31, 2022).

- Guideline 05-2022: New Home Warranty Insurance Claims and Claims Disputes Guideline – posted June 1, 2022
- In accordance with section 792.1 of the Insurance Act, this Guideline is to direct warranty providers (for example: insurers) on how to adjust home warranty claims and resolve home warranty claim disputes in Alberta.
- Interpretation Bulletin 04-2022: Charitable Donations of Life Insurance – posted May 27, 2022
- In accordance with section 792.1 of the Insurance Act, this Interpretation Bulletin provides the Superintendent of Insurance’s interpretation that in certain specified circumstances, the donation of life insurance policies to bona fide charities is not trafficking in life insurance.
- Interpretation Bulletin 03-2022: Alberta Automobile Insurance Standard Endorsement Forms Amendments – posted June 1, 2022
- In accordance with section 792.1 of the Insurance Act, this Interpretation Bulletin advises, pursuant to section 551 of the act and effective June 1, 2022, the Superintendent of Insurance has approved amendments to 53 standard endorsement forms (SEFs).
- Form amendments applicable to Direct Compensation for Property Damage are listed in the Superintendent’s Interpretation Bulletin 04-2021.

- Interpretation Bulletin 02-2022: Best Terms Pricing – effective March 30, 2022
- In accordance with section 792.1 of the Insurance Act, this Bulletin notifies property insurers in Alberta that the Superintendent of Insurance has expanded the application of Superintendent of Insurance Bulletin 03-2020: Best Terms Pricing to all subscription insurance policies in Alberta. For the purposes of this Bulletin, the meaning of Best Terms Pricing (“BTP”) is the same as that defined in Bulletin 03-2020.
- Notice 01-2022: Insurance Intermediaries Amendments – effective February 23, 2022
- This notice alerts all insurers and insurance professionals that the Insurance Act has been amended by Bill 80: the Red Tape reduction Implementation Act, 2021 (No. 2). Various Orders in Council were also passed, which amend the Insurance Agents and Adjusters Regulation (IAAR), the Certificate Expiry, Penalties and Fees Regulation (CEPFR) and the Insurance Councils Regulation (ICR).

To protect consumers and enhance public confidence in insurance, the Superintendent of Insurance monitors, investigates and takes appropriate regulatory action when there is non-compliance with the Insurance Act and Regulations under the Act (see Insurance legislation, orders and agreements).
Regulatory action includes Administrative Penalties, Cease and Desist Orders, Compliance Undertakings and Court Prosecutions. In all cases involving regulatory action, there will be public notification on this web page. Public information notices or news releases may be issued where it is in the public interest to do so.
