When a consultation pause is in effect for an Indigenous community, all Consultation Timeline and Consultation Adequacy Decisions associated with The Government of Alberta’s Guidelines on Consultation with First Nations on Land and Natural Resource Management and The Government of Alberta’s Guidelines on Consultation with Metis Settlements on Land and Natural Resource Management (as applicable) are paused for that community. Consultation activities should not take place during the consultation pause.

For proposed projects where all procedural aspects of consultation were completed prior to a consultation pause, proponents may proceed with submitting records to the ACO for an adequacy review. The ACO will not be issuing consultation adequacy decisions during the consultation timeline pause period. Any additional consultation required, as directed in a ‘More Information Request’, may be subject to a consultation pause, as per the listing on this page.

When timelines are reinstated, all consultation activities can be resumed with Indigenous communities as of the reinstatement date.
