Wildfire update

High Level Forest Area - March 26, 2025

Low wildfire danger

The wildfire danger across the High Level Forest Area (HLFA) remains low, but, with the official arrival of spring last week, is likely to climb in the coming weeks. As warmer conditions continue to melt the snow, large areas of dead and dry grass will be exposed, which can support fast-moving wildfires, especially on warm and windy days.

Spring is here; now is the time for wildfire prevention

The big melt will soon arrive and with warmer weather comes the need for increased vigilance when it comes to wildfire prevention. All residents and others working in the High Level Forest Area (HLFA) are asked to be vigilant and follow wildfire prevention practices -- particularly with outdoor burning, including campfires. More information on safe campfires, wildfire prevention and preparedness is available from Alberta Wildfire. Tips to FireSmart your home and other buildings are also available for residents, farmers and businesses.

Fire permits required

As we are now into official wildfire season (Mar. 1 to Oct. 31), fire permits are now required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Fire permits are free and can be requested from the HLFA main office at 780-926-5407 or online on the fire permit webpage
