In focus

From early fur traders to 31 vibrant communities today, delve into the story of the Francophonie in Alberta.

Through measures detailed in the French Policy 2024-28 Action Plan, the Alberta government is improving services in French to Albertans.

Alberta’s government has declared 2026 as the Year of the Francophonie to recognize the long-standing presence and contributions of French-speaking communities.

The Secretariat liaises with Alberta’s Francophonie and coordinates implementation of the French Policy. Learn more about its mission.
