The Farmers’ Advocate Office (FAO) was merged with the Property Rights Advocate Office (PRAO) in October 2020 to form the new Farmers’ and Property Rights Advocate Offices (FPRAO). The staff from the FAO and PRAO work collaboratively and meet formally under the direction of the advocate to effectively manage work priorities and advocate on behalf of property owners and rural Albertans.
The FAO assists in the resolution of disputes, provides timely information to the farming community on matters of concern, and advocates on behalf of rural landowners by bringing their concerns and ideas to decision-makers. The PRAO’s mandate differs in that staff are not directly involved in resolving property rights disputes. Instead, they provide information and resources and make recommendations to the Legislative Assembly to address common concerns raised by stakeholders.
The advocate represents Albertans’ interests in government policy.
