The fire danger is high in the Edson Forest Area, due to warmer temperatures. Although some regions received rain, it was not widespread and vegetation is drying out. A wildfire can ignite easily and spread quickly in these conditions. Please be cautious if you are spending time outdoors.
Wildfire situation
There are no active wildfires in the Edson Forest Area.
Since January 1, there have been 26 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area burning a total of 15 hectares. View active wildfires, their location and statistics on the wildfire status dashboard.
Fire restriction
A fire restriction is in place for a small portion of the Edson Forest Area, located north of Grande Cache.
A fire restriction prohibits the use of wood campfires on public land but does allow wood campfires inside provincial campgrounds and private property. Fire permits may be restricted, suspended or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.
Visit Alberta Fire Bans for more information and to see the boundaries of the fire restriction on a map.
Prevent spring wildfires
Around 63% of wildfires in Alberta are human-caused. Do your part to prevent wildfires by following these tips:
- When operating off-highway vehicles (OHVs), stop often to remove debris from hot spots on your vehicle.
- Avoid parking on tall grass as the heat from your vehicle’s muffler can start a fire.
- Use equipment safely by keeping spark-producing machines away from dry grass.
- When using farming equipment make sure that you clean debris from hot spots regularly. Always carry water and firefighting tools such as a shovel, pail, and extinguisher.
- Revisit the locations of any previous burns on your property to ensure these fires are fully extinguished.
