The fire danger has increased to high across the forest area due to hot temperatures. With the higher temperatures over the last few days, vegetation has started to dry out, increasing the chance of wildfires.
Wildfire situation
Since January 1, there have been 72 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area burning a total of 1,090 hectares (ha).
Wildfires EWF038, EWF036 and EWF030 are currently classified as under control. A wildfire is classified as under control once it has been successfully managed and there is no risk that the fire will spread. These wildfires may emit smoke. Firefighters are monitoring these wildfires for activity and will respond accordingly.
View active wildfires, their locations and statistics on the wildfire status dashboard. Wildfires are regularly assessed by experts and assigned a status to describe the behaviour of the wildfire, and how it is responding to suppression efforts under current and expected conditions.
Fire permits
Fire permits are currently required for burning within the Forest Protection Area, with the exception of campfires. You can apply for your fire permit online or call your local Edson forestry office at 780-723-8527.

FireSmart
If you are not out exploring our forests this long weekend, it would be a good time to consider some FireSmart tasks around your home and property. Here are 3 tasks you could do:
- Clean out debris from your gutters and under your deck.
- Remove tree branches up to 2 meters from the ground to prevent a fire from igniting the tree.
- Move all combustible materials at least 10 meters from your home and outbuildings.
