The Driving Back to Work (DBTW) program has reached its maximum participant capacity for this fiscal year. If you applied before November 15, 2023, your application will be reviewed to determine if you are eligible.
Our grant administrator, the Ballad Group, will:
- continue to process the existing applications over the coming weeks
- be in contact with each current applicant regarding their application status on the next steps
The Ballad Group will develop and maintain a waitlist for eligible applicants to be placed with a driver training school. Should you be approved, training will take place in Spring 2024. The application intake will reopen on April 1, 2024.
The DBTW program supports unemployed and under-employed Albertans in obtaining a Class 1 driver’s licence by covering more than 90% of training and testing costs.
As of November 7, 2022, eligibility for the DBTW program has expanded to allow more Albertans to access the program. Albertans who are working fewer than 29 hours a week on average per year are eligible for this program, not just those who are unemployed. The expanded eligibility helps more Albertans access support to start careers as commercial drivers, which will help reduce labour shortages in the transportation and warehousing industry.
