Overview
Credibly asserted Métis communities are Métis organizations (other than Metis Settlements) that have successfully demonstrated a credible assertion of Métis Aboriginal rights within a geographic area through the Alberta government’s Métis credible assertion process.

Governance
Following the credible assertion process, credibly asserted communities enter into a Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). The MOUs formalize collaboration between Alberta’s government and the community on shared priorities, including long-term sustainability of the community’s social, economic and cultural objectives.

Métis Credible Assertion process
Métis organizations (other than Metis Settlements) can be considered for consultation if they successfully demonstrate a credible assertion of Métis Aboriginal rights through the Alberta government’s Métis Credible Assertion process.
