Overview
In Alberta, the Federal Child Support Tables – from the Government of Canada – are used to calculate child support under both the:
- Divorce Act
- Family Law Act
- Federal Child Support Guidelines are adopted by the Alberta Child Support Guidelines in Schedule 1
The tables show the basic monthly amounts of child support, based on the paying parent's income and current federal and provincial tax rules.
2025 changes
These changes are effective as of October 1, 2025:
- The updated tables will use 2023 tax rules.
- The previous version used 2017 tax rules.
- The changes do not automatically update existing child support orders.
- If using the new tables would result in a different support amount, it may count as a ‘change in circumstances.’
- If this happens, parents can do either of the following:
- apply to the court for a variation order
- use a recalculation service to have their child support amount updated

For child support periods:
- between November 22, 2017 and September 30, 2025 – use the 2017 Federal Child Support Tables
- on or after October 1, 2025 – use the 2025 Federal Child Support Tables
