Overview

We monitor the safety and compliance of commercial bus and truck carriers. The goal is to ensure commercial vehicles on Alberta roadways are operating safely. If a carrier does not follow safety laws, the government may intervene with their operations to reduce the risk the carrier poses to the public.

Carrier intervention

Carrier & Vehicle Safety follows guidelines in the Intervention and Discipline Policy. This ensures that carriers demonstrating non-compliance are approached in a consistent, fair and objective manner.

The policy was updated in 2018 to enhance processes, reporting systems and technologies. This update provided better oversight and more timely interactions between us and commercial carriers.
