As a Fisheries Technician, you will assist with the coordination and implementation of area fisheries management programs including:
- Population and habitat assessments
- Fish kill investigations
- Commercial fishery monitoring
- Preliminary analysis and technical reporting for standard technical reports
- Coordination of the area stocking program
- Issuing and monitoring Research and Competitive Fishing Licences
- Data loading into the provincial database
You will work actively with interest groups, landowners, other government agencies, industry, and stakeholders to meet fisheries and habitat management goals. During this period you will be provided with the training and experience needed to develop the competencies required to perform the duties at the full working level.
Minimum Recruitment Standards
- Diploma in Natural Sciences or related field plus considerable related experience, OR
- Degree in Natural Sciences or related field plus several related experience.
Your salary will be $50,484.19 - $64,188.25 per annum.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to operate and maintain certifications pertaining to various field equipment, including: off highway vehicles (snowmobiles, ATVs); motorized and non-motorized boats; electrofishing equipment and other specialized equipment
- May be required to work in remote areas
- A valid First Aid/CPR certificate is required

As a Senior Fisheries Technician, you will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of area fisheries management programs including:

Fisheries Biologist (Natural Resources 7)
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Fisheries Biologist, you will function as a key member of an integrated team of professional and technical staff responsible for managing fisheries in an area setting.
You will be responsible for:
- Planning and implementing a specific project or study
- Participating in area research activities
- Conducting population surveys
- Providing data analysis
- Supervising technical staff
You will represent the fisheries management program on various committees and make presentations to government and public groups.

As the Provincial Instream Flow Needs Biologist, you will conduct instream flow needs (IFN) studies throughout the province. You will provide input into designing, coordinating and implementing research and monitoring programs on a provincial scale.

Senior Area Fisheries Biologist (Natural Resources 9)
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Senior Area Fisheries Biologist, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Fisheries Management Program's activities in an assigned area. You will be directly involved in shaping provincial policy and program priorities, as well as ensuring all fisheries program interests related to integrated resource management are addressed.
A key focus will be to represent the fisheries program perspective during the review of major land and resources development proposals. You will also frequently lead regional and provincial level teams on various fisheries management related initiatives.
You will also provide leadership and supervision to a team of junior biologists and technical staff in the area.

Head, Fisheries Allocation and Use (Senior Manager)
Duties and Responsibilities
As the Head, Fisheries Allocation and Use, you will be responsible for the development and coordination of fisheries management programs for conservation and use of provincial fish stocks by subsistence, sport, and commercial users.
You will provide senior managerial input into the development and implementation of provincial fisheries legislation, management programs, recovery plans, fish stocking as well as providing advice on the public education, communications, and enforcement and conservation programs.
