Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - May 29, 2025

Very High wildfire danger

The wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area has climbed to very high. The warm temperatures, combined with windy conditions and lack of precipitation have led to increased fire risk. If a wildfire ignites in these conditions, it could grow quickly and exhibit erratic behaviour, making it difficult to contain.

Please use extreme caution in the coming days. If you see smoke in the forest, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473). Quick reporting helps wildfire crews respond faster and reduces the risk of wildfires spreading.

Fire advisory

A fire advisory is now in effect for the Calgary Forest Area.

Under this fire advisory:

  • Existing fire permits remain valid but will not be extended.
  • New permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis for essential burning only.
  • Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited.

Always use extra care and attention when enjoying a wood campfire. Never leave it unattended. When it’s time to put it out, remember to soak it, stir it, and soak it again to ensure it’s completely extinguished and safe.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve or further escalation to a fire restriction is warranted.

Fire advisory, fire restrictions and fire bans are in place across the province. Please visit Alberta Fire Bans to see if you are impacted.
