Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - June 23, 2025

Low wildfire danger

Heavy rain across the area and snow at higher elevations over the weekend have kept the wildfire danger low. The fire danger is expected to remain low in the short term. More showers are in the forecast, adding extra moisture to vegetation.

Wildfire situation

There are currently no active wildfires in the Calgary Forest Area. Since January 1, 2025, a total of 25 wildfires have occurred in the region, burning approximately 33 hectares. Wildland firefighters from the Calgary Forest Area who are not currently engaged in wildfire suppression elsewhere in the province are helping locally with maintenance and prevention initiatives.

A wildland firefighter crew of four people stand in in front of a helicopter, holding snow shovels. The helicopter is parked on a wooden helipad on top of a mountain. There is snow around the helipad. There are mountains in the background horizon. CH01, a wildland firefighter crew from the Calgary Forest Area, assisted in removing snow from the Moose Mountain wildfire lookout and helipad on Monday, June 23.

Wildfire prevention

Anyone planning to set off fireworks or use exploding targets in the Forest Protection Area needs written permission from a local Forest Officer. Learn more about the safe use of fireworks and exploding targets to help prevent wildfires.
