During periods of lower fire activity, staff dedicate time to training, including supporting the Junior Forest Rangers program.
Junior Forest Rangers take part in hands-on training in Hinton, where they learn practical skills like safe tool use, wildfire prevention, and land stewardship. The program offers Alberta youth valuable experience in forestry and natural resource management.
Fire permits required
Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. This includes small brush piles and burn barrels. Fire permits are free and can be requested from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800. Fire permits can be requested online.
Fire permits help wildfire officials monitor burning activity and ensure it’s done safely.
