Wildfire update

Calgary Forest Area - April 01, 2025

Low wildfire danger

The wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is LOW. Although a few warm days over the past week briefly increased the wildfire danger, it was followed with widespread snow. The forecast is again calling for several days of below seasonal conditions with more precipitation. Very warm conditions are expected over the weekend which will accelerate the snow melt and likely increase the wildfire danger conditions in the finer fuels such as dead and dry grass in exposed areas.

2025 Wildfire season preparations

A group of 22 wildland firefighters completed fitness testing yesterday, which is a condition of hire as a wildland firefighter. They are now finalizing other commencement requirements before joining their crews in the coming days. Congratulations to the successful candidates!

Wildfires in the CFA

With the lower wildfire danger, there are currently no active wildfires in the forest area.

Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 10 wildfires which have burned 26.34 hectares.
