Help set the direction for Budget 2022 - take our online survey by January 15 to share your priorities for your family, business and community.
Businesses, associations and groups can also submit letters and other documents online to share their budget priorities.
Overview
Alberta has been hit especially hard by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and oil price collapse. This has led to decreased revenues, increased expenses, higher than anticipated debt, and a record high deficit. Alberta now faces a debt burden of $97.4 billion, more than $22,000 per Albertan. This is similar to an average Alberta family having their income reduced by 17%, while having their expenses increase by 10%.
Your input helped inform tough decisions to ensure we can continue providing important programs and services, get Alberta out of debt and on the path to a prosperous future. This engagement explored the following topics:
- reducing costs
- prioritizing how revenue should be spent
- seeking opportunities for saving
- looking for ways to strengthen the economy
