Body transportation

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) uses body transportation firms to safely and compassionately move people who have died.

Overview

As of September 30, 2016 the OCME will only use contracted body transport providers, except in special circumstances.

Payment

The OCME pays for the transportation of a body from a scene of death in Alberta to our office in Calgary or Edmonton. The OCME also pays the transportation costs from its office to the funeral home, up to the same distance from where the death occurred if the death occurred outside of the cities of Calgary and Edmonton.

Apply to transport dead bodies

The OCME only uses contracted body transport providers, except in special circumstances.

A potential vendor that’s interested in providing body transportation services to the OCME must apply to be considered as a ‘pre-qualified resource.’ This process provides open, fair and transparent access to qualified service providers.

How to apply
