Overview
In partnership with Enoch Cree Nation and the City of Edmonton, we received feedback to inform the establishment of Big Island Provincial Park, a 79 hectare parcel of Crown land in southwest Edmonton along the North Saskatchewan River.
On February 16, 2023, Alberta’s government followed through on a platform commitment to establish Big Island Provincial Park.
Big Island Provincial Park will be cooperatively managed by the Government of Alberta, Enoch Cree Nation and the City of Edmonton. This tri-governmental approach will ensure a sustainable future for Big Island and protect its ecological, historical and cultural significance.

Outcomes
Your feedback helped inform the establishment of Big Island Provincial Park under the Provincial Parks Act by Order in Council on February 16, 2023.
What's next
The Government of Alberta, Enoch Cree Nation and City of Edmonton will work together over the next year to co-develop a plan for managing Big Island Provincial Park.
The park can only be accessed by boat at this time. New roads and facilities will be built in the future to make it easier for visitors to access and enjoy the park.
