Introduction
The following survey is an opportunity for statutory consent holders within the Berland sub-region to provide alternative means and measures to the proposed management approaches in the draft Berland Sub-regional Plan and its regulatory details.
For the Berland Sub-regional Plan to be implemented, the sub-regional plan and its regulatory details is to be approved and regulated under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act. Implementing the sub-regional plan and the regulatory details under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act provides:
- non-binding policy directions for sub-regional plan directions
Recent amendments to the Alberta Land Stewardship Act enable the government to establish sub-regions and approve stand-alone sub-regional plans without the need for inclusion in a regional plan in these circumstances. The Berland sub-region is in located 2 regions, the Upper Peace Region and the Upper Athabasca Region, which currently do not have an approved regional plan.
The draft Berland Sub-regional Plan and its regulatory details are proposed to be approved as a standalone plan under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act until a regional plan in this area comes into effect.
