ASIRT has an agreement with Yukon authorities to investigate cases of death, serious injury and serious or sensitive allegations involving police in the territory. The incident took place on Aug. 11, 2026, at approximately 1:45 a.m. A staff member at the Whitehorse Emergency Shelter called the RCMP, asking for help with an intoxicated woman who was in the men's sleeping area and refusing to leave. Staff at the facility also advised that no beds were available for the woman to stay overnight.
An RCMP officer arrived just before 2 a.m. and found the woman lying on the floor inside the men's sleeping quarters. The officer tried unsuccessfully to get a response from her.
The officer then took hold of one of the woman's legs and began dragging her from the building. As she went through the doorway, her shirt got caught on a doorstop and was pulled off, exposing her upper body. The officer draped the shirt over the woman’s torso, continued dragging her outside onto the sidewalk, and then left. Approximately 40 minutes later, another RCMP patrol unit took the woman into custody.
