Introduction

Created under the Education Act, the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission is an independent, arms-length regulatory body that oversees disciplinary matters for teachers and teacher leaders, much like professional organizations do for a variety of occupations in Alberta, including nurses, doctors and social workers.

The commission reviews and investigates complaints of alleged unprofessional conduct and professional incompetence filed against Alberta-certificated teachers and teacher leaders.

Annual reports

The Education Act mandates that the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission must prepare and submit an annual report to the Minister of Education on complaints received and reviewed by the commission in the previous year. The minister presents the report to the Legislative Assembly.
