On July 6, they were recognized for doing a coordinated and socially distanced clean-up of several parks.
Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta
The COVID-19 pandemic has kept many youth in Alberta separated from their friends and peers. Despite this, a soccer team in Sherwood Park found a way to come together to give back to their communities. The Phoenix U10 Girls soccer team decided to have a socially distanced park clean-up.
On Thursday, April 23, each of the girls went to a local park close to their homes in Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan or Edmonton, and then spent an hour picking up garbage. They each went to a separate park to maintain social distancing practices but went out at the same time so that could say they were doing it as a team.
As communities begin to re-open, park and playground users in these areas will have a much cleaner place to play thanks to these young athletes.
Honour the contributions of an amazing individual or group.
