Location: Okotoks, Alberta

Owen Plumb is a grade-nine student who is using his 3D printer to make personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Owen has sought funding from the Rotary Club of Okotoks and GoFundMe to manufacture face shields. He has partnered with the Fuse 33 Makerspace in Calgary and Evergreen Solutions Corp., a manufacturer of clean chemical technologies in Okotoks, for processing and assembly.

Owen has also created a Facebook group to coordinate the creation and distribution of PPE in the Foothills region and to raise awareness of the ways community members can aid in the fight against COVID-19 while staying at home. Once health authorities approve the use of 3D printed PPE, Owen’s face shields will serve as critical supplies for healthcare workers.
