KULAN Community and Youth Development is a non-profit organization that offers support to the Somaliland community in Alberta. One of the key pillars of their initiative focuses on youth; the organization offers a variety of programming, such as after-school programs, tutoring, youth rehabilitation and employment preparation. They also work with Somaliland newcomers to Alberta and provide services in Somali as well as English. In addition, they offer help with income tax preparation, pre-employment workshops, and assist low-income seniors with obtaining and using computers.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, KULAN has been assisting marginalized families and vulnerable individuals in Alberta access food and other essentials. The organization also ensures that public health guidelines and information on how to stay safe during COVID-19 is translated for Somaliland newcomers and the community in general.
