Jorja, 14, enjoys playing hockey and volunteering through Calgary Youth Central in her spare time. There have been fewer opportunities for Jorja to volunteer since March as Calgary Youth Central has had to change its operations due to COVID-19. Jorja decided that she still wanted to give back to her community, and in mid-March, she started picking up shifts at the Calgary Food Bank.
For the past 5 weeks, Jorja has spent a few hours sorting food and packing bags and hampers for individuals and families receiving support from the food bank. According to Jorja’s nominator, “She knows the value of giving back to her community, and COVID hasn’t stopped her desire to do so.”
