Location: Red Deer, Alberta

Before the pandemic, Barbara regularly volunteered at Red Deer Hospital’s dialysis unit. Even though her regular volunteer commitment was suspended because of COVID-19, she felt it was important to keep giving her time to support her community.

Barbara quickly found another volunteer opportunity and began helping her community at a local thrift store, preparing orders for their customers. She has demonstrated what it means for Albertans to stand together when times get tough. According to Barbara’s nominator, “She is an inspiration to many who know her.”
