Volunteers are the driving force behind St Albert’s Africans and Africa Descendants Friendship Club. From the volunteer board to the members of the association, the organization focuses on the well-being of the community, purchasing and delivering groceries and volunteering at the Edmonton Food Bank to help ensure access to food for those in need and providing seniors with transportation to medical appointments.

The Club also works to bring the community together and has helped to organize various programs including the youth mentorship event, "It Takes a Village to Raise a Child" and “Taste of Africa”, hosted for the first time in St. Albert in February 2020 in celebration of Black History Month. Club members often do double duty, volunteering their time in support of other local organizations providing immigrant settling services such as St. Albert Further Education which offers training and assists newcomers in integrating into the community.

For sharing their experience and knowledge with compassion and empathy, we honour the Africans and African Descendants Friendship Club as Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition recipient.
