Overview

The Province of Alberta is rich in natural resources and innovation. Its energy, tourism and technology industries are critical not only for Canada, but are major economic drivers of the international economy.

Alberta is the answer to global energy security

Alberta is one of the most reliable and secure energy providers in the world.

Alberta has the fourth largest oil reserves on earth and significant natural gas resources. And we have a stronger environmental record, stronger democratic institutions and stronger human rights standards than other energy producers.

Cutting-edge technologies allow the province to continue increasing production while protecting our air, water and land for generations to come.

Alberta is the answer to food production

Alberta is an agricultural powerhouse. The province’s hard-working producers and processors put food on tables around the globe, contributing to local and global food security. Last year alone, Alberta exported $17.5 billion of agri-food products.

Alberta’s competitive business environment, abundant arable land, and Canada’s most irrigated acres has led to it being the country’s biggest producer of beef, barley, honey and potatoes, and the second-biggest canola and wheat producer. Its reputation for innovation, assurance and excellent products has made it the country’s third-largest exporter of agri-food products overall.

Last year, the five biggest markets for Alberta’s agricultural exports were the U.S., China, Japan, Mexico and India. Japan is Alberta’s biggest market for pork and second-largest market for beef.
