Overview
The Indigenous Court Work Program (ICWP) grant funds services provided by Alberta-based Indigenous communities and organizations that support Indigenous clients in criminal, youth or family court.
Services funded through the grant ensure fair and equal access to court services for Indigenous people by providing:
- services or assistance before, during and after the court process
- critical and timely information to the courts
- in-depth knowledge of relevant local programs and services
The ICWP supports Indigenous clients as they navigate the court system by helping them understand:
- their right to speak for themselves or to ask for a lawyer
- what the charges against them mean
- how the criminal justice system or family court functions
Eligibility
Applicants must be located in Alberta and be one of the following:
- First Nations
- Metis Settlements General Council and Metis Settlements
- Métis Nation of Alberta
- Treaty organizations
- Indigenous not-for-profit organizations
Ineligible applicants include:
- municipalities
- for-profit organizations
- schools or school boards
