Alberta Community Justice Awards

Nominate someone in your community who helps prevent and address crime through their work or volunteer activities.

Recognition

The Alberta Community Justice Awards recognizes individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to preventing crime in our communities.

The recipients have shown exceptional leadership, innovation and dedication to working and volunteering in community justice.

Beginning in 2026, the Alberta Community Justice Awards will transition to a biennial format. This change allows for broader recognition of impactful work and provides more time for communities to identify and nominate deserving individuals and organizations.

Eligibility

The following people can be nominated:

  • individuals
  • youth justice committees
  • crime prevention organizations
  • victim services groups
  • restorative justice organizations
  • police officers and services

Nominees must have made extraordinary contributions to community justice through their work or by volunteering in:

  • crime prevention
  • victim services
  • youth justice committees
  • restorative justice

Ineligible nominations

The following nominations are not accepted:

  • police and peace officers nominated by a police service or fellow member (only individuals or organizations may nominate these officers)
  • anyone who’s received the award in the past 3 years
  • self-nominations and nominations from immediate family members
  • nominations from a subordinate in an organization
  • nominations from someone who would directly benefit from the nomination process or award

Nominee evaluation

The following criteria are also used to review nominees and choose recipients:

  • emerging excellence – key involvement in an emerging community justice initiative that responds to local needs
  • innovation – innovative and effective approaches towards addressing local community needs
  • service enhancement – deliberate steps that have enhanced the services provided by a local organization
  • partnerships and collaboration – effective partnerships with agencies and complimentary organizations within the community
  • *new – enhancing justice – recognizes the individual(s)/organization(s) for outstanding achievement in the administration of justice
