Addiction and mental health service provider licensing

Service providers who offer or provide regulated services must meet core requirements and, in most cases, be licensed.

Introduction

Improved safety and quality of care are important for those who access regulated addiction and mental health services. The Mental Health Services Protection Act and Mental Health Services Protection Regulation establish licensing requirements and ensure core standards are met by service providers in Alberta that offer or provide:

  • residential addiction treatment services
  • supervised consumption services
  • narcotic transition services
  • psychedelic drug treatment services

Service providers have the right to appeal most licensing decisions made by the government.
