To help support Albertans self-isolating and practicing social distancing, we are extending expiry dates for Alberta driver’s licences, vehicle registrations and other permits and certificates until May 15, 2020.
For more information, visit COVID-19 info for Albertans.
How to sign up
Sign up with MyAlberta eServices and we'll remind you when it's time to renew your driver's licence/identification card and/or vehicle registration. You'll receive an email 2 months before and then again 2 weeks before the expiry date.
- Albertans holding parking placards for persons with disabilities or disabled licence plates will continue to receive renewal reminders through the mail.
- Seniors over the age of 70 as of April 1, 2016, continue to receive renewal reminders through the mail.
Albertans are responsible to ensure that their registrations, licences, and identification cards are current. A driver’s licence is valid for one to five years, depending on the class, and expires on your birthday. Registrations expire on an assigned month based on your surname.
Check the expiry dates on your licence plate, driver’s licence, or identification card and mark them on your calendar.
