Changes to this program/initiative are proposed in Budget 2019: A plan for jobs and the economy.
Post-secondary tuition and non-instruction fee increases in Alberta are subject to the following rules:
- An institution’s average tuition and apprenticeship fee increases cannot increase by more than the annual percentage change in Alberta's Consumer Price Index
- Students must be given the opportunity to help determine tuition and fee increases
- International students have a guaranteed rate of tuition for the standard length of their programs
- Executive graduate programs are subject to a designation process
The minister of advanced education also has the authority to regulate mandatory non-instructional fees and international tuition, set apprenticeship fees and order future tuition freezes.
More details can be found in the Alberta tuition framework.
