Overview
Alberta has commercial and community permits for access and harvesting of Crown timber. Commercial timber permits are won by bid or sold directly to those that are not part of community timber programs. Community timber permits are issued to local, eligible, small forestry operators registered under community timber programs.
The province issues commercial timber permits to individuals or corporate bodies by tender or auction, or non-competitively through direct sale.
The province issues community timber permits by sale to local eligible operators registered under community timber programs.
