Overview
You can submit data on tracked or watched Elements to the Alberta Conservation Information Management System (ACIMS). Learn about what is needed before you submit observations and the forms you will need.
Before submitting observations
ACIMS receives high volumes of data submissions and will only process data that meets a minimum standard. Confirm your data meets the following requirements:
- Only submit data for Tracked, Watched, or new Elements.
- New Elements are those which have not yet been recorded in Alberta.
- Element identifications have been reviewed and confirmed before submission to ACIMS.
- Element names match the current Element list.
- Include photos of characteristic features used for Element identification.
- Include other details that can be used to confirm identification (description of diagnostic features, specimen collection information, habitat, etc.).
Submit observations
There are now 2 options for submitting observation data to ACIMS.
- Submitting completed ACIMS submission forms by email, or
- Submitting observations to an ACIMS iNaturalist project.
In both cases, make sure to check the most current Element lists before submission.
ACIMS submission forms
Email us the data submission form and any other relevant information. If possible, include spatial files (for example, .shp, .gdb), delineating the extent of the population and the search area. Photos, maps, and reports are also useful.
Email your submission to: [email protected]. Use the subject line: ACIMS data submission.
Forms for observations

iNaturalist projects
Submissions to ACIMS can also be made through iNaturalist, using the projects listed below. Please include relevant information for each observation using the iNaturalist 'Observation Fields'.
