About the artist
Alberta’s fifth Artist in Residence was Samantha Williams-Chapelsky. An abstract landscape painter, Samantha’s practice focuses on interpreting Alberta’s vast landscapes from a storyteller’s perspective. She employs abstraction and uses paint to convey emotion, history and meaning.
During Samantha’s term, she painted 108 plein air landscapes from more than 40 communities across Alberta. The entire collection was was at the Fine Arts Building Gallery in Edmonton in an exhibition entitled Sky, Stone, and Prairie: Plein Air Perspectives of Alberta during the Month of the Artist in September 2025. Selected works from the collection were also exhibited at the Elevation Gallery in Canmore and the AFA art house in Calgary.
